URBAN ARCHITECTURE
Site visits in Rome initiate learning about the urban response from ancient times to modern times including recent works by world renowned architects Zaha Hadid and Renzo Piano. Visits will also be made to the offices of area architects to learn about the profession.
LANDSCAPE
The Center’s holistic approach to the built environment includes an exploration into the region’s landscape and topography as well as that of the historically significant garden designs of the 15th and 16th centuries.
URBAN DESIGN
From ancient aqueducts to modern mass transit, from ancient baths to modern sports arenas, students will study urban deisgn from Pope Sixtus V to current times.

LECTURES , SEMINARS, PROJECT
Lectures to be provided by Center Staff and area Architects. A private tour of Palazzo Altemps will be given by a Architetto Francesco Scopola of the Ministero per i Beni Culturali. Most lectures will be focused in the first week of the program along with extensive site and museum tours.
Students will be given an introduction to drawing, model-making and SketchUp (architectural software); no prior experience in these areas is required. An architectural assignment will be given for development over the last two weeks of the program.
Students will be divided into three teams: the white team, red team and green team. Each team will be responsible for presenting their finished project at the end of the session to visiting critics and to exhibit their work to the local community including to the Mayor and City Council of Capranica.
Students will visit La Sapienza (University of Rome) School of Architecture and work with students from the university in a collaborative effort on their project design.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a certificate of participation along with photo-documentation of the students’ work for portfolio use.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Students must be at least 16 years of age
- Students entering a PG year qualify for this program
- Maturity and commitment to program rigor is expected.
- Must hold a valid passport.
- Must provide own transportation to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport where students will be met by Center staff
- Must have medical insurance valid overseas for the duration of the Program.
- Provide complete medical history citing special needs plus complete and current health and immunization records.
